We usually learn about Roman cities through stories of emperors, conquests, and events that shaped history, but have you ever wondered how women lived in an ancient city?
It is precisely their quiet world that is the focus of this tour — from enslaved women to wealthy Salonitankas.

On this walk, we explore life in Salona from a female perspective, a city that was a lively center of the Roman province of Dalmatia, at the crossroads of East and West, a meeting point of diverse cultures and influences.

What did it mean to be free, married, or born into a certain family? How did women love, dress, and celebrate life? What was their relationship with death, and how was it expressed through rituals? By interpreting archaeological finds, we attempt to sense their daily life in Salona — a world where women navigated between tradition and the constant changes of a cosmopolitan city.

With one foot in the heritage of previous centuries and the other in new, uncertain times — much like women today, who balance daily life between the real and virtual world — this tour is not a linear story, but a mosaic of experiences: exploring freedoms and limitations, life and death, customs and rituals of women in late antique Salona.
